A Gesamtkunstwerk, or ‘total work of art’, the interior of the Peel Cottage bathroom consists of a two-light stained glass window with cast bronze window handles, accompanied by the interrelated mouth-blown Venetian glass smalti mosaic floor and walls.
Brian Clarke designed the curved, reflective plaster-painted walls to catch the transillumination of colour from the window. Clarke also explores this combination of red latticework and historical fragments in his windows, Bermuda Triangle (2009-2010) and Mayer'schez Treppenhausfenster (2010).
