Bermuda Triangle

2009 - 2010
Private residence, London, United Kingdom
DESCRIPTION

‘Bermuda Triangle’ is a collaboration between Brian Clarke and his friend, the architect Zaha Hadid. When Hadid saw a set of drawings for stained glass windows in Clarke’s sketchbook, she designed a sofa for the same space. The resulting pairing, ‘Bermuda Triangle’, is installed in a first floor room of Peel Cottage.

The windows utilise nineteenth-century stained glass fragments, rescued from bombed sites in Lancashire and Bavaria, which are collaged against the grid. Taking its form from the irregular shape of the room, the sofa is rendered with a lacquered blue finish. This sofa became the prototype of the 'Zephyr' sofa, an edition of 12 of which were produced by the architectural practice, Zaha Hadid Architects and Cassina.
