Studies for the Deliverance of St. Peter (After Raphael)
2011 - 2012
Through a series of watercolour and white pencil works on black card, Brian Clarke arrived at the composition of his bronze sculpture, Study for the Deliverance of St. Peter (After Raphael).
The forms depicted were inspired by Raphael’s fresco The Deliverance of Saint Peter from 1514, in which the shining silhouette of an angel is glimpsed through the bars of a prison cell, assisting the saint’s miraculous escape.
