Abstract Drawings
2011
This Abstract Drawings series was created by Brian Clarke in 2011. Each work is executed on black card and explores variations of abstract shapes and colours. The compositions integrate various formal elements, including calligraphic lines, grid motifs, and formations reminiscent of clouds and flowers in yellow, ochre and white paint. Across the series, these elements appear in diverse configurations. They sometimes occupy the centre of the sheet and at other times are positioned along the borders or in the corners.
Between 2011 and 2012, Clarke also created his Studies for the Deliverance of St. Peter (After Raphael), which share similar tonal and formal qualities with this series.
