Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Medal

2015
DESCRIPTION

In 2015, Brian Clarke was selected to design the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Medallion, given to recipients of the prestigious Churchill Fellowship, which spans all areas of modern life. Clarke himself had been awarded a Churchill Fellowship in 1974, allowing him to travel and experience art across Europe and the US.

Undertaken in blue cloisonné enamel on silver, this medallion features an image of Winston Churchill, with the fellow’s name engraved on the reverse. Clarke explains:

'The digitised image of Sir Winston is drawn from the iconic portrait by celebrated photographer Yousuf Karsh, taken in 1941. It is intended to glow with the reflected light of the silver, through the transparent vitreous enamel.'
