Paint Tubes

In the ‘Paint Tubes’ series in pencil, watercolour and collage on paper, Brian Clarke transforms his materials into his subject. In a number of these works Clarke collages the Windsor & Newton labels from paint tubes into their silhouettes, or adds reflective sweet wrappers beyond their borders.

Clarke expanded the motif of the paint tube in his ‘Paint Tube’ paintings in 2010, a trio of panelled triptychs, his ‘Treasures and Relics’ paintings of 2011, and in the ‘All and Everything’ bronze sculptures of 2011.
