Overview

Published to accompany the 1979 exhibition of the same name at St Edmunds Arts Centre, Salisbury, Brian Clarke: Working Drawings reproduces some of Brian Clarke’s early drawings. With photographs by Howard Kingsnorth, this catalogue features introductory essays by the British artists John Piper and Patrick Reyntiens. Witnessing the fundamental relationship between drawing and Clarke’s broader output, the works reproduced are, in Reyntiens’ words, ‘the foundations of a structure subsequently to be raised above our heads’.
