Glass/Light was published to coincide with the eponymous exhibition held at the Royal Exchange in 1978, the most extensive exhibition of stained glass of the 20th century to date. With a foreword by British artist John Piper, texts and photographs by art historian Martin Harrison, and an essay by Brian Clarke, this catalogue includes historical and contemporary stained glass, from Edward Burne-Jones' first-ever design for stained glass, Christ as Good Shepherd (1857), to works by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Frank Lloyd Wright, Marc Chagall and Brian Clarke. Co-curated by Clarke, Piper and Harrison, this exhibition grew out of Clarke’s research during his two Churchill Trust Fellowships and was funded by the Arts Council of Great Britain.
