The first monograph on Brian Clarke and his work, Brian Clarke catalogues his art and life between 1976 and 1980. It is written by art historian Martin Harrison with an introduction by German artist Johannes Schreiter, and includes contributions from artists Patrick Reyntiens and Liz Finch. Only aged 27 at the time of publication, this monograph introduced the young artist whose work, Schreiter argues, had already ‘initiated a new phase of English art.’ The cover photograph, by David Bailey, captures Clarke in front of his 1981 oil painting Pieta, a ‘New Constructivist’ tribute to Piet Mondrian in bold colour.
