Victoria and Albert Museum Window
1979
The Victoria and Albert Museum Window was designed by Brian Clarke in 1979. It is composed of three sections: two feature grids marked by crosses on a white background, while the third features a grid interrupted by gestural lead marks on a green background. The entire composition is framed by a thick red border.
Following the success of the exhibition GLASS/LIGHT, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London acquired the piece from Clarke for its permanent collection.
In a letter to the museum curator, Clarke stated: "The panel I am offering is […] 8 ft. x 4 ft. and designed and made this year. It is one of a series of three works and I think the most significant panel I've done this year."
