G2-26 The Dragon and the Beast
G2-26 The Dragon and the Beast
2022
In the stained glass screen The Dragon and the Beast, Brian Clarke draws from the Great East Window at York Minster. A central inspiration for Clarke since his first encounter with the cathedral in childhood, he combines the medieval apocalyptic scene with a contemporary register by incorporating newsprint that references the Covid-19 pandemic.
This folding screen was produced with an innovative technique that eliminates the lead cames traditionally used to support and join stained glass, allowing the glass to interact freely with light and space. The Dragon and the Beast exists in an edition of 10 unique variants plus 3 artist’s proofs, published by HENI.
