Don't Forget the Lamb (Obverse)
Don't Forget the Lamb (Obverse)
2012
Don’t Forget the Lamb (Obverse) is a composition over two metres tall by Brian Clarke, dating from 2012. Without precedent in the medium of stained glass, Clarke inverted in this work the typical ratio of glass to lead found in rose windows, emblems of the technical and artistic achievements of the Middle Ages.
Clarke arrived at this composition through studies on paper, tracing the rose’s outlines in calligraphic white pencil. In these preparatory works, the black ground represents the areas that would ultimately be rendered in lead. The final design is presented in watercolour and collage works that capture the radiance of the glass petals.
