The Link
1994
In 1994, Brian Clarke developed a design proposal for The Link building, the former name of Saudi Arabia's first skyscraper. The building, known today as the Al-Faisaliah Center, was designed by Foster + Partners and is located in the capital city, Riyadh. It was completed in 2000.
For this project, Clarke envisioned mosaic-clad walls with colourful linear elements, a blue stained glass window composed of 49 individual square panels featuring green, yellow and orange amorphs, and blue mosaic floors incorporating similar amorph shapes.
Later, following the client’s request for a figurative theme featuring striding camels, Clarke redesigned the project, which ultimately became the Al-Faisaliah Center.
In 1995, Clarke exhibited samples of his designs for the mosaic and stained glass for The Link at Tony Shafrazi Gallery.
