Plaza Frankfurter Allee
Plaza Frankfurter Allee
1994
The Plaza Frankfurter Allee shopping centre is located directly beside the Samariterstraße underground station in Berlin’s Friedrichshain district. Opened in the summer of 1995, it was the first shopping arcade in Friedrichshain. It combines office, retail, hotel and residential spaces, covering an area of approximately 5,000 square metres.
The building features a high internal courtyard roofed by a glass barrel vault. For this space, Brian Clarke created designs and a model for a ceiling composed of blue stained-glass panels which incorporate amorphs. The project remains unrealised, and the Plaza Frankfurter Allee features today a clear glass vault.
