Designs for St. Mary’s Parish Church
Designs for St. Mary’s Parish Church
1978
In 1978, Brian Clarke submitted a proposal for a stained glass window for St. Mary’s Parish Church in Luton, one of the largest churches in Bedfordshire and an example of medieval architecture dating back to the 12th century. The brief called for a contemporary and abstract replacement for a late Victorian window.
Although Clarke’s designs were ultimately not selected, this project marked his first participation in a limited competition for a major stained glass commission.
