Aachen Synagogue
1994
In 1994, Brian Clarke created the stained glass design for the Contemporary Synagogue in Aachen, built in 1995 by architect Alfred Jacoby at Synagogenplatz 23.
For the series of eight slim, rectangular windows flanking the Torah shrine, Clarke envisioned geometric patterns animated by bands of red, yellow and blue. His design also included a stained glass frame for the central Torah shrine, composed of panels in blue, yellow and red tones that extend upward to a narrow blue window.
The project was ultimately not realised.
