King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (with Zaha Hadid)
2013 – 2014
Paintings, maquettes and visualisations for a collaborative proposal for a monumental mural, which developed into a proposal for a wall-mounted sculpture, designed for Zaha Hadid’s King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC), Riyadh. The artwork was designed through 2013 in collaboration with Hadid, for installation in 2014, but was never realised in the building. In its first incarnation, Hadid and Clarke's concept was for a mural, to be painted by Clarke on-location, for which several studies in gesso and oil pastel, and in oil paint and gold leaf, were made; the final design was for a 1,291 square foot, cast bronze linear sculpture.
