Castlemaine House Mosaic

St James' Park, London

Designed and fabricated in 2010, the Castemaine House Mosaic is executed in Venetian glass smalti, with Clarke's characteristic grid and signature linear elements joined by a gold caramel wrapper, a motif that preoccupied him in that period, appearing in painting, collages, and in drawings. When the patrons who commissioned this work moved house in 2017, the artwork was carefully mapped out and disassembled, and reinstalled in their new home, as part of the St James project.
