Brian Clarke produced his ‘Rome Paintings’ whilst on a self-imposed exile during which time he lived in the Italian capital, as well as in Düsseldorf. These large-scale works were first displayed in the inaugural exhibition for the Robert Fraser Gallery in London, 1983.
