Fleur de Lys Tapestries and Rugs

1998
DESCRIPTION

In 1998, Brian Clarke designed a series of 15 cut-pile rugs and tapestries made of hand-tufted wool, in celebration of the 40 years anniversary of London-based homeware firm Aram Designs. This collaboration stemmed from his introduction to its founder Zeev Aram through his art dealer Robert Fraser in the 1970s.

Based on two of his paintings of fleurs de lys from the same year, these works mark Clarke’s the first depiction of this motif in woven material.
