A Garden for George

2008
Chelsea Hospital Gardens, RHS Flower Show, London, United Kingdom
DESCRIPTION

Titled From Life to Life, Brian Clarke designed a mosaic path for a memorial garden for The Beatles singer George Harrison. Made in collaboration with Harrison's widow, Olivia Harrison, and Yvonne Innes, who designed the garden, it was entered into the Chelsea Flower Show in 2008 and was awarded the Royal Horticultural Society Silver-gilt Medal.

A bright mosaic path, fabricated using traditional Roman techniques and comprised of hand-cut, Venetian glass smalti, the garden acts as a ‘celebration of [Harrison’s] life, music and philosophy’. Innes described the garden as, ‘representing George’s youth and the Beatles years’, while ‘Brian’s path at this stage is a riot of colour, closely matched by the planting – a heady mix of colour, texture, form and foliage’.
